New bike ordered.

« on: August 11, 2018, 12:09:26 PM »
I have followed the new bike thread relating to the purchase of the Triumph street twin with some envy.
I test rode and ordered my BMW F850GS sport in July. Predicted delivery was late August or first week of September.
That seemed a long time, but I recalled my last new BMW being at the dealer 3 weeks ahead of prediction last time.
The following week I remembered I hadn't opted for the comfort touring seat.
A phone call to the dealer revealed that it was too late. The only way of adding it was a separate order, costing over 200 more than an ordering option!
I declined and told them I'd get the supplied seat, refilled by bootleg seats at Preston.
They phoned back to tell me they could cancel my first contract and submit an alternative order, including the comfort seat. Fantastic.
A further phone call instructed me the new delivery date was week beginning 24th September! Further delays could see me having a 19 plate!
So now all I can do is wait. And wait. And wait.....
I figured new bike, new helmet. I ordered it via Amazon. Ordered Wednesday evening, delivered Saturday morning. From Italy! BMW, take note.
Bike and matching helmet...... Eventually.

Nobody, will build me a mid size shaft drive bike.

Bloody manufacturers!

At least it will have a three year warranty and  European recovery included.

Austria next year looks tempting.

BMW move the goal post yet again.
Delivery date now extended to week beginning 08/10.
Any further delay could see the bike in Christmas wrapping paper!

E-mailed BMW UK this morning to express my disappointment.

I have evoked a reaction from my e-mails. (Note the plural.)

First letter to BMW UK was responded to with, a sorry, but outside our control, pointing me back at the dealership.

I then forwarded a copy of the same letter to BMW in Germany.

The following day, the sales principal phoned from my dealership. BMW would have my bike at their premises on Tuesday next week.

The registered number would be YC68... and was my fully specified build.  :D

The moral of the story. Never accept the first fob off you encounter.

FPM and I will collect the bike on Wednesday next week.  8)

It has been a long wait since ordering the bike in early July, but finally the eagle has landed.

Thus far only the short ride home from the dealership, but the optional comfort seat feels like a wise decision.

The wider, deeper seat, in combination with the compliant suspension resulted in a sublime ride home.

I think my blunt end detects the presence of a gel pad in there.

I have fitted a temporary universal Givi Monokey plate to allow use of my top box, until Givi can be arsed into manufacturing the alloy purpose built plate they announced in late July.

I also routed the wiring loom for the satnav and created an above the clocks mounting location.

A very nice looking bike Mr Cat. Just out of curiosity what did the "uncomfortable" seat look like?

The picture in the opening post shows a standard seat. They have a coloured insert on the saddle side. Comfort seat has grey inlay top.

Is the gel pad the difference then? The stock seat looks perfectly fine too.
