Site Update - September 2014

« on: September 14, 2014, 10:19:03 PM »
Hi all,

Just a quick post to let you know what's going on behind the scenes (or maybe to the front of the scene, depending on which way you look at it).

Our resident genius, @leigh , has been hard at work making some changes for us.

Firstly, you will notice that I have used an '@' sign above. Those who access the desktop site (and this should work if you access the full site from a mobile or tablet) will now be able to @mention another member of their choice. As you type the '@' and the first letter of their username, you should get a list of all the members whose username begins with that letter. You can either select the member from the dropdown list, or continue to type their full username, if you know it.
Once your post has been submitted, the member who has been @mentioned will receive an email notification (you can disable this in your profile settings, but you won't know when you have been mentioned then), and those using Tapatalk will receive a notification via the application.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be @mention compatibility for posts created within Tapatalk as yet. We will continue to look for a fix to this.

Next, you may have noticed one or two 'ads' floating about the site. We are trialing Google ads to test how efficient they are. We have tried our best to keep them to a minimal size, so they don't affect the site too much. The reasoning behind these being added to the site, is that we will receive a small amount of money each time an ad is clicked, so this is more aimed at guest members, rather than existing members. Please let us know what you think of them, its just an attempt to get some kind of revenue stream to the site, however small.

Resident boffin is going to approach a friend who is a well regarded graphic designer, to see if they will make us a new site logo. I felt my attempts were a little feeble, and looked a little too unprofessional. I would like for us to have a really good logo to put on the clothing items (more about that below) so they look good, and stand out for all of the right reasons.

The clothing store, for T-shirts and Hoodies etc is all set up and good to go. I am just awaiting an outcome on the logo situation before uploading the final designs for sale. I wouldn't want to put the existing (old?) logo on the apparel, everyone purchase items, then change the bloody logo now would I.

So I hope this answers a few questions you may, or may not, have had. Feel free to drop a reply in here to any of the above, or anything which I have failed to mention, and I will get back to you.

Cheers.

Sounds good, I agree about the logo. Might be worth a click on the Google ads just before we leave the site, an extra couple of minutes to generate a little income for the running of the site.
Site looking good guys keep up the good work
only when we risk death do we feel most alive
