Spain 2018.

« on: September 18, 2017, 12:50:04 PM »
Prelminary discussion between Hilldweller, (Brian) and me points to another ride in Spain to the moto-gp event at Jerez.
The highlight of last years trip was the miles ridden in the picos mountains in northern Spain.
Whilst we await the publication of next years moto-gp calendar, the form from previous years points firmly to the lastweekend of April, 28th and 29th.
A very early Easter next year places our trip of about two weeks, comfortably distanced from school holidays.
Currently a party of two, with a possible third forum member being available, I'm making early mention of the adventure to give others the opportunity to express interest in joining us whilst allowing time to sort out annual leave and months so start saving up.

Hi
I did this sort of thing a couple of years ago.

There were 3 of us so we advertised for a fourth, UP to the speed limit, normally 150 miles per day, ride every other day, drink modest amounts of beer/wine on the non riding day.

The fourth joined us, same age group, very experienced Continental tourist, -- modern fast bike, he believed "speed limits were for the guidance of a wise man and the observance of fools".  The outcome was-- two of them went away, fast, 200 miles per day and the other pair of us went slowly to interesting places.  The four of us still get on but we would not holiday again

So my advice is to pair up,  (it cheapens room costs), vet the other riders and try a weekend away as a group.

Have a good time

Exactly what happened on our last trip.

Although we did 500 miles one day after cutting previous day short due to serious rain/hail which hurt. Not bad going for a Honda 500. The fast guys were BMW R1000 and new Africa Twin.

Amazingly it now appears we have our full complement of 4 forum members to sample northern Spain in September next year.
4 members for any ride out usually proves a challenge, so even more impressive for a 1,200 mile ride out.
The ferry crossing is a little more than our usual Windermere crossing too.
The two that are our Spanish bike touring virgins are in for one heck of a treat.

They sure are. Windermere will be pretty boring after the Picos de Europa.......

Plenty of time for the newbies to convert their bike to left hand drive.

Hi
since it is September 2018 I will watch with interest cos my 2018 plans are to go to "The end of the known world", an island called El Hierro, beyond Tenerife about the same time, as soon as schools reopen and prices drop.

"The end of the known world" cos it was as far west as the known world went, until Columbus invented America.  Invented, cos it had been discovered before by the folks who lived there

Ferries booked. Some hotels also secured. The remainder, we'll just wing it as we go mainly.

Awesome, where is that ?

Notice an observation point half way down ! That's where we take the picture.

On second look, maybe it's just a really tight turn.

It's actually the French side of the Pyrenees. I rode up a very similar route on the Spanish side making my return from Barcelona a couple of years ago. 29C to 2C in very little time. It made my ears pop too.
We'll settle initially for the ride up to the Picos deer statue and obligatory photo shoot.

Against all the odds, and a succession of web based hurdles, he's secured 4 seats together in a top located stand for our party.  :D
